Mount Kilimanjaro being the biggest composed of 3 volcanic cones Kibo, Mawanzi and Shira. Kibo is the highest then Mawenzi at 5,149 metres and Shira the lowest at 4,005 metres. On your way up to the mountain you will experience lots of wildlife and vegetation which makes the trekking adventure less tiresome.
Mount Kilimanjaro has various climbing routes namely: Marangu route, Rongai route, Lemosho route, Shira route, Umbwe route and Machame route.
Marangu Route:
This is often used by inexperienced climbers because of its reputation for being the “easiest” route. This is the shortest and cheapest route, but less time to get used to the new climate therefore lower success rate. There are dormitory style accommodation in huts, less scenery to see due to ascent and descent on same route.
Rongai Route:
This is often a true wilderness experience on the early stages of the climb and gets tougher at the final. It also has fewer acclimatization opportunities and it’s less scenic and flatter than other routes.
Lemosho Route:
This route is less-used and is a beautiful way up to the Shira Plateau. Climbers ascend the western route with the Kibo South Circuit to ascend by the easier Barafu Route. The first day of the route hardly ever has any game animals. This route contains remote less frequented, beautiful forests, scenic traverse to Barafu, camping and is a great route for getting accustomed to new climate. The standard route takes 7 days on the mountain, and is sometimes extended to 8 days with a stay at Karanga Valley.
Machame Route:
This route is designed for physically fit people who have had some hiking experience, it can be used by first time trekkers as well it is well recommended seeing as it is one of the better routes up the mountain.
Climbing the mountain is not the only thing the Kilimanjaro region has to offer. Tourists can also take part in Walking Safaris where they get to sightsee what the towns around the mountain have to offer.
